Seven Benefits of Rolfing

Rolfing is a soft tissue manipulation and movement education that organizes the whole body in gravity, originally developed by Ida Rolf. Rolfing affects the body’s structure by manipulating the connective tissues.

Often considered a deep-tissue approach, rolfing bodywork works with all the layers of the body to ease strain patterns in the entire system. Rolfing creates efficiency in muscle and patterns of movement by allowing glide between tissues. Rolfing has also been shown to significantly reduce chronic stress or pain and enhance neurological functioning.

Rolfing makes long term changes and has significant benefits in many areas of life.

  1. Rolfing® promotes mobility.
  2. Rolfing® can enhance breathing.
  3. Rolfing® improves posture.
  4. Rolfing® leads to greater balance and stability.
  5. Rolfing® can alleviate pain.
  6. Rolfing® improves proprioception (body perception).
  7. Rolfing® has a positive effect on the mind, mood and outlook.

With the expansion of Rolfing over the years there are now skilled Rolfer practitioners in most parts of the United States.  As with many fields, the more experienced the practitioner the more effective the therapy is likely to be.

Bob Alonzi is such an expert with more than 30 years of experience in the field. His interests in sports and physical activity have led him to take special interest in athletic and traumatic injuries along with injury prevention and rehabilitation.  He is the author of I-Stretch and Strengthen, available online.
